Day 1 is a success!

Wow! What an incredible first day of World Youth Day! We spent the day at Barangaroo sharing our stories and our love for Christ with hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world. Our youth waved our U.S. flag proudly as we walked to the venue and all throughout the day. After much sharing and trading of U.S. items, we celebrated mass. It was so moving to have thousands together singing and praising the Lord in unison...in so many different languages! After mass we ate some Aussie stew and danced and sang at a wonderful concert. As we were leaving the venue, we were treated to a wonderful walk by the water in the harbor and some spectacular fireworks over the water. All of this and it was just day one! We are anxious and excited to see what else is in store for us. Tomorrow we have catechesis in the morning and then the youth festival in the afternoon. Thank you everyone for this wonderful opportunity. We take all of the love of the St. Thomas Aquinas community and our families and friends with us as we journey closer to Christ. God bless! Mary F.
